What is Troop Leader Training?

This is a one-weekend event, conducted by the Scoutmaster (or assistant) and Senior Patrol Leader to provide leadership guidelines for the youth leadership of the troop. Training is accomplished with an objective-based workshop developed by Troop 307's adult leaders. Although the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader preside over this training, parents, committee members, and the chartered organization representative are encouraged to participate.

The red 'traditional size' neckerchief is given to each participant to show that he has participated in the course.

TLT has the following purposes:

  • To give each incoming youth leader an orientation to his place in the troop staff.

  • To give each incoming youth leader an introduction to his job requirements.

  • To plan the program for the upcoming term of the scout year.

  • To introduce new leaders to the different styles of leadership.

  • To teach and develop leadership skills.

Upon completion of this training, scouts may wear the "Trained Leader Emblem", No. 280, on their sleeve below their badge of office.
